Description:
The Property Tax Reimbursement Program provides those who are 65 or older or collecting Social Security Disability to be reimbursed for increased property taxes paid on the home, which they own and reside. There is income eligibility limits each year. Effectively “freezes” property taxes by reimbursing eligible low-income seniors and disabled citizens for increases in their property taxes that occur after 1997. This program applies only to homeowners and mobile homeowners who are 65 and over or receiving federal social security disability benefits and who also satisfy certain income and residency requirements. Property tax reimbursement is the payment of the difference between the amount of property taxes due and paid in the base year (i.e., 1997 or the year the applicant first met all the eligibility requirements) and the property taxes in any other subsequent year, if the latter amount is higher.
