Since 1968, Trinity Counseling Service has been serving the clinical and counseling needs of the greater Princeton community. TCS is a licensed nonprofit mental health agency that offers high quality counseling services from experienced clinicians. Its early roots come from a community outreach program of Trinity Episcopal Church, under the pastoral care of founding director The Reverend E. Rugby Auer. In 1977, TCS incorporated as an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with a strong foundation of community leaders assuming governance and oversight responsibilities for the growing organization. Since that time, many thousands of individuals, families, students, and the burgeoning immigrant population that helps make Princeton a diverse and vibrant community, have benefited from the compassionate care and high quality therapy that are the hallmarks of TCS. The Rev. Peter Stimpson followed Rugby Auer as Director in 1989 and, in his twenty-five years of tenure, led TCS to develop a number of significant initiatives to broaden service to the community. These included the J. Seward Johnson, Sr. Childhood Intervention Initiative and the James Scott Hill Bereavement and Caregivers Program. Reverend Peter Stimpson retired with much celebration in spring of 2014. Trinity Counseling Service is now led by Dr. Whitney B. Ross, a native of Princeton. TCS now conducts approximately 11,000 therapy sessions per year and partners with many schools and organizations to provide mental health and wellness services to the greater Princeton community.
Individual, marital, family and child therapies. Issues addressed: alcoholism, drug abuse, anxiety and stress, bereavement, child abuse/neglect, depression, divorce, domestic violence, marital problems, middle-age crisis, problems in parenting and step-parenting, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders, such as rape, or incest and wellness issues. The Child Intervention Project is offered free of charge to at-risk children from low income families referred through the Child Study Teams in the Princeton Regional School System. Issues: academic, behavioral and developmental problems.
