As a part of County government, the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services (to be referred to as OoA&D hereafter) is the legislative authority under The Older Americans Act of 1965 and New Jersey State Statutes.
Established in 1974 by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the OoA&D is the agency that plans and coordinates services and programs for adults 60+ years of age. The services of the Somerset County OoA&D are funded by the Older Americans Act, Social Services Block Grant, Casino Revenues, client donations and the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
The range of programs for older adults falls into three (3) service categories:
-Programs promoting wellness and community involvement;
-Services supporting independence;
-Services for dependent elders and their caregivers.
